SEO vs Paid Ads: Which One Does Your Business Actually Need?

Every week, business owners in Dhaka ask me the same question: “Should I spend my marketing budget on SEO or Facebook/Google Ads?” The honest answer is that they solve different problems — and the right mix depends on how fast you need results and how much runway you have.

How SEO Works

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) improves your website so it ranks organically in Google’s search results. You don’t pay per click — once you rank, that traffic is essentially free. The trade-off is time: SEO typically takes 3-6 months to show meaningful results, because Google needs to trust your site’s authority, technical health, and content quality.

How Paid Ads Work

Google Ads and Facebook/Instagram Ads put you in front of customers immediately — your campaign can go live today. But the moment you stop paying, the traffic stops too. Ads are a rented audience, not an owned one.

When to Choose SEO

  • You’re building a long-term brand, not chasing a one-time launch
  • Your product/service has steady, ongoing search demand (people are already searching for it)
  • You can wait 3-6 months for compounding results
  • You want a lower cost-per-lead over time

When to Choose Paid Ads

  • You need customers this week, not this quarter (a new shop opening, a limited-time offer)
  • You’re testing a new product and need fast market feedback
  • Your niche is too competitive to rank organically in the short term
  • You have budget to sustain ongoing ad spend

The Real Answer: Most Businesses Need Both

Ads bring in customers while your SEO is still building up in the background. Once your organic rankings kick in, you can often reduce ad spend and let SEO carry more of the load — giving you the best of both: speed now, and lower cost later. You can see how these are packaged together on our pricing page.
